Hire Only Licensed Arborists for Louisiana Hurricane Tree Cleanup
As Louisiana recovers from the aftermath of hurricanes, it’s important to hire only licensed arborists to work on storm-damaged trees. Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Commissioner Mike Strain reminds residents to follow the state’s horticulture law and protect themselves from uninsured contractors.
“Anyone doing tree work in Louisiana must obtain a license through the LDAF,” says Strain. “Licensed arborists are trained to properly execute tree work and maintain liability insurance. Get a written estimate and never pay for the job in full upfront.”
Following hurricanes, many unlicensed contractors go door-to-door offering tree services. Strain urges residents to ask for a license and a current copy of the arborist’s liability insurance certificate before hiring. “Louisiana horticulture law states that no person shall receive fees, advertise, or solicit business in a regulated profession or occupation unless they hold the appropriate license or permit,” adds Strain.
Residents of Opelousas, Carencro, Lafayette, and all parishes of Louisiana should be aware of the law to protect themselves from the potential damage caused by unlicensed and uninsured contractors. Hiring a licensed arborist ensures the proper and safe removal of storm-damaged trees.
